The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, war-time veterans organization; the Nacogdoches chapter was established shortly after that. It is a not-for-profit community-service veterans organization with over 100 local members who have served in all branches of the United States military.

We meet at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of every month at the Disabled American Veterans Hall, located at 3110 Appleby-Sand Road (at the corner of Appleby-Sand Road and East Austin Street) in Nacogdoches.

Our post particpates in local veterans and patriotic events, promotes patriotism in the community, and assists veterans. We also participate in the American Legion Boys State Program, by sending two high school students to the state capital in Austin, Texas. Here they learn about how our government works through personal experience. The program is designed to mirror the structure and
operation of its respective state government, providing
training in practical citizenship, leadership and character
development.
